In their installations, et al. investigate ideas which relate to group culture and behaviour. Scientific experiments, political ideologies, the classroom and the most extreme of religious rituals are dismantled and exposed as mind-control mechanisms. Thanks to these associations, the work of et al. is especially meaningful in the wake of recent developments in global politics.
et al. is an anonymous artists’ collective. Recent solo exhibitions include For The Common Good, West, Den Haag, Netherlands (2015), simultaneous invalidations #3, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Auckland (2011) and that’s obvious! that’s right! that’s true!, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu, Christchurch (2009). In 2004 et al.’s restricted access was awarded the Walters Prize by US curator Robert Storr.
